Anoka County lies along the rapidly growing corridor between St. Cloud and Minneapolis. Because of the growth, commuter routes can be congested. However, the construction of the Northstar Commuter Rail is underway, and is expected to offer tremendous traffic relief. In Anoka County, this route will pass through the City of Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Fridley on the way to downtown Minneapolis.

Homes for Sale

Real estate here is affordable, and the selection is large. Right now, according to the Northstar Regional MLS, there are over 2100 single family homes for sale at an average asking price of about 300K. There are over ten dozen brand new or to-be-built single family home projects. New construction comprises a significant portion of the Andover and Blaine markets, and near Ramsey’s New Town Center Development. “Green” construction practices are becoming increasingly common here. For example, Spindler foam and insulation is becoming a popular building material. However, if you see Brazilian hardwood like cherry floors, you might want to ask abou how the timber was harvested.

Look for Craftsman-style architecture, Mission-style woodwork, and other stunning custom homes by quality builders llike Bruggeman, Hans Hagen, and North Country Builders. Many builders up here are unloading their properties at discount prices. However, with the population growth, and a market that is cyclical, don’t expect these opportunities to last very long.
