Anoka MN Real Estate
Anoka is a Northwest Minneapolis Minneota suburb with a population of about 18,000, and located where the Rum and Mississippi rivers. It is just a short 18 mile drive to downtown Minneapolis. Anoka is located in Anoka County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. The town is 123 years old and enjoys two municpal liquor stores, its own electrical utility, over 30 parks, county fairgrounds, 31 ball fields, Anoka Ice Arena, a golf course, 16 tennis courts, an indoor pool, a new aquatic center, senior citizen activity center, and a supervised sliding hill. The school disctirect is the second largest in Minnesota. The town also boasts 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, a senior high school, and the Anoka Hennepin Technical College.
More than 500 businesses call Anoka “home.” Among these are Copper Sales, Federal Cartridge Company, Lakeland Tool and Engineering Company, Hoffman Enclosures, Inc. Other major employers include the Metro Regional Treatment Center, District 11 Schools, and the city itself.
Anoka has always been actively promoting business development in the area.
For some reason, Anoka has the dubious distinction of being the “Halloween Capital of the World.” I am not sure what that is all about, so I will have to get back to you on that one.
Homes and Townhomes in Anoka
Anoka MLS generally offers about six or seven dozen active single family home listings. In the 100’s, you may be able to find a home from about the turn of the century that has some character but needs a little work. Generally speaking, half of the available homes are older than 1970, and you can find a nice split-entry from the 80’s and 90’s for about 250k. New construction is somewhat sparse, and not much is offered over 500k. There are newer townhomes to be found for less than 200k, including side by side and quads. If you call me and I can find some lake homes on Itasca or Pickerel Lake, or maybe even some riverfront property on the Mississippi or Rum Rivers.
