Beautiful and serene, it´s no surprise that the literal translation for Belle Plaine´s French name is “beautiful prairie.” Belle Plaine MN was founded in 1853 by Minnesota Judge Andrew G. Chatfield back when Minnesota was just a territory, and boasts a rich history complete with several remaining historic sights scattered around town. Located approximately halfway between Mankato and the Twin Cities, Belle Plaine has both a rural, small-town feel and a thriving downtown, a perfect place to enjoy the best of both worlds.

When it´s a busier atmosphere you crave, head to downtown and enjoy one of the city´s cookouts, or find plenty of eating, entertainment, and shopping opportunities the whole family will love. Did we mention that Belle Plaine has a baseball field at Tiger Park, as well as the Valley View Golf Club for all you sports fans!
We´re sure Belle Plaine´s tree-lined neighborhoods will appeal to your desire to commune with nature, but if that´s not enough, you´ll surely get your fill by taking advantage of the city´s six parks. In Belle Plaine, you´ll discover plenty of recreational paths, including the Minnesota River Valley Trail System, which is perfect for bicycling, hiking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, horseback riding, etc. Take advantage of dozens of prime spots for camping, fishing, or simply picnicking. The variety of playground equipment will delight the kids and keep them busy for hours!

Homes in Belle Plaine
The collapse of the ill-conceived Excelsior Henderson motorcycle factory left the area with a big supply of single family homes. In case you aren’t from the area, Excelsior-Henderson manufactured a heavy-cruiser motorcycle that was targeted toward the Harley Davidson crowd. It wasn’t a bad bike. But the bikes were priced higher than the Harley Davidson bikes! It’s pretty hard to compete with Harleys at a higher price! The loss of this factory left a soft real estate market behind. This was bad news for the locals, and good news for homebuyers. It’s pretty easy to find a newer split entry in the low to mid 200’s. There are a few odd Belle Plaine homes for sale on the MLS from time to time that look sort of like splits, but they are really slab-on-grade two stories with the kitchen on the second floor. If you see one of those, you should run screaming. You would be better off looking at some of the older, more dignified homes in town that are loaded with woodwork and built-ins.
Belle Plaine Townhomes
Belle Plaine is just about 14 miles south of Shakopee, and is just a nice drive past scenic apple orchards and Minnesota River Valley scenery. Now you can drive home from a hectic day at work and attend to your night job as a couch potato! No yard work or exterior painting or snow shovelling for you!
Townhomes are a new phenomenon in Belle Plaine, and it is rather hard to find many more than 10 years old. Prices range from 140’s to low 200’s, making this a very affordable market. In fact, you can find a nice all-one-level twinhome with a two car attached garage that is only a few years old for under 200k. Many will include a four season sunroom, tray vaults and a basement. You really get a lot of townhome for your money out here!
