Lake City should probably be called “Boat City Minnesota.” After all, there is a marina here with about 600 boat slips. The city is an historic Mississippi River town located along the western shores of Lake Pepin. Lake Pepin is an outwash formed by the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers, and is about three miles wide and 21 miles long. This town claims a small part of history as the “Birthplace of Waterskiing.” I get frequent calls and emails about this area, mostly from out-of-state folks in Iowa or Nebraska who want to enjoy Minnesota waterfront, but don’t want to drive too far north. Lake City MN real estate is a natural choice for those who want to enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, and, of course, the beautiful Mississippi River bluff views. Also, the fact that it is only about an hour from the Twin Cities metro area and even closer to Rochester and Redwing make this a convenient place to live. The large concentration of migratory birds and bald eagles is an added bonus for tourists and residents alike. This picturesque Wabasha County city is designated as a “Globally Important Bird Area.” It has also been designated a “Tree City USA” for the last 15 years.
