Maple Lake, Wright County

September 16, 2008

Here’s another lake located next to its namesake city on MN 55 and about 45 minutes west of Minneapolis. The nearest town, of course is Maple Lake MN, a charming little town of about 2100 people. Maple Lake is wide and deep; the surface area is 777 acres, and its maximum depth is 75 feet. It’s pretty clear, too; secchi disk readings indicate a water clarity of 8.8 feet.

The lake is very accessible to all of you fishermen from Minneapolis. There is a city-owned public ramp on the southwest shore, and a public access on the northeast shore that is maintained by the county.

The DNR has scant information on this lake, although it has stocked this lake with walleyes every other year. According to most folks around here, black leeches will catch them if you try the gravel bars on the south end or the drop offs in the smaller bay in the north. There are plenty of northern pike along the weedbeds whereverr the banks are steep.
