  1. Maria Energia is a blog that discusses innovations and companies that are focused on developing secure efficeint energy resources for the twentieth century. A recent post highlights Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak’s plug-in hybrid car. The mayor plugs the car in to an electrical supply once a day and claims 80 miles per gallon in city driving.
  2. Biodiesel People. Here is an unusual post that invites people to a workshop where they learn how to make biodiesel and actually cook some of it up in class. Workshops are one-time hands-on introductory classes conducted by Sundays Energy team.
  3. Ed Kodner is a Lake Minnetonka real estate agent and Active Rain blogger. The link goes to a post that discusses the exhibition of green building technology in the 2008 Parade of Homes. In spite of the fact that 40% fewer builders participated in the event this year, the “Green Tour” was an exciting component in this year’s Parade of Homes.

  4. Green Technology Forum
. This blog actually comes to us from Indianapolis, but I thought it deserves a mention anyway. The blog has an interesting post about how the 35W bridge collapse could have been prevented by nanosensor technology used on the Golden Gate Bridge to measure the bridge’s structural performance.
  5. The Green Minnesota Roofs Council hosts a blog about roofs that uses living plant material as part of the roofing system. Green roof components include a water proof membrane, living plant material, insulation, drainage systems, a filter layer, and a growing medium. Surprisingly, a green roof will last for 35-50 years, thereby reducing replacement costs. The insulating qualities reduce energy costs, and the green roof systems reduce stormwater management costs.
  6. Greenblog advocates “green” webhosting. Green webhosts use servers that are powered by renewable energy. A list of green webhosts is provided for your convenience. Uh-oh! I don’t see my web host company listed! Perhaps I am guilty of having a “dirty” web host.
  7. Tyghre Collentine is a Minneapolis real estate agent and Active Rain blogger. The link provides a list of ten questions every “green” house hunter should ask.
  8. GreenIsTheNewRed.com. is a blog that discusses the political phenomenon of “green scare” or “red-baiting with a green twist.” Under the auspices of the Patriot Act, environmental activists can be labeled “eco-terrorists.” This blog is certain to get someone riled up.
  9. The Deets is not an environmental blog, and usually has excellent posts about Minneapolis beer, pizza, and cheeseballs. These alone make the blog worthy of a bookmark. However, it did publish an eco-related post that blew my mind. According to the post, in 2007, the City of Minneapolis reduced its sewage flow into the Mississippi River from eighty million gallons to zero. This is the first year that the city did not dump raw sewage into the river. Maybe I haven’t been following this topic very closely, but I am surprised. I never thought this could happen. The Friends of the Mississippi River organization is ecstatic. It’s great to see such a ray of hope shining on the Minneapolis environmental scene.
  10. If you want to see some inspiring photos of the Mississippi River, check out Friends of the Mississippi River. Its tagline is “Working to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities area.” If that tagline does not inspire you, the photos certainly will.
