Nisswa is a city of about 2,000 and is located just north of Brainerd in Crow Wing County. Neighboring towns include Crosslake, Pine River, Pequot lakes, and Merrifield. Once a lumber camp and train stop, it is now better known for touristy shops and a sundry list of top-notch Minnesota lake resorts. It is also known for some of the best bass and walleye fishing lakes in Minnesota. Major lakes here include the Gull Lake Chain, Round Lake, and Cullen. It is also a gateway to the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, the most notable of which is Cross Lake. If you don’t like fishing (that’s kinda weird) you can go golfing, skiing, and snowmobiling.

Right now, at the time of this post, the Northstar Regional MLS states that there are single family Nisswa homes for sale. The average asking price for these real estate listings is $547,338. This might seem like a lot, but if you are willing to forego the lakeshore, there are twenty of them that are available under 300K. It’s not unusual to see a handful $2-3M luxury Nisswa lakeshore estates on either Gull Lake or Cross lake, so the listing price average is not really indicative of the housing market here. If the Northstar Regional MLS supplied median listing prices, this would give a more accurate picture of real estate market conditions here.
Choices cover the price and style spectrums; there are a number of double-wides and prefabs that make perfect hideouts for snowbirds, all priced under 200K. You can also find some 70’s splits for sale on acreage backing up to woods. On the other end of the stick, you will find some multimillion dollar acreage Gull Lake homes that are either brand new, or were built in the last year or two. They all are surrounded by tall, majestic pines. Some of these even enjoy lake views from every room. Gourmet kitchens and long expanses of prime sandy Minnesota lake shore are not uncommon in this price range either.
