Prior Lake-Savage MN Schools ISD 719
The Prior Lake-Savage school district is served by six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one brand-new early childhood education center that offers half-day kindergarten. Parents wishing to enroll their kindergarteners for full days may take advantage of the extended-day kindergarten option offered by the district’s elementary schools. Open enrollment is available.
District 719 strives to provide all students with a high-quality education. State test scores in reading, writing and math have consistently exceeded state averages. In 2005, voters approved over $67 million in bonds for various improvements, including updates in the latest technology infrastructure.
The district’s six elementary schools serve students in kindergarten through grade five. At the elementary level, much emphasis is placed on instruction in core subjects, particularly math and reading. In addition, unique teaching methods are utilized to effectively educate students in all subject matters. The average class size at the elementary level is approximately 24 students. The average pupil-teacher ratio is approximately 15 students per teacher.
The Prior Lake-Savage school district also offers a highly qualified teaching staff; 61% of the district’s instructors have earned their master’s degree. Elementary students receive instruction in art, physical education, music, and media science from certified teaching staff.
Prior Lake-Savage’s middle schools serve students in grades six through eight. Students and teachers are grouped into “houses” to provide students the benefit of a more collaborative, intimate learning environment. The average class size at the secondary level is approximately 27 students.
The district’s middle school students are exposed to instruction in various foreign languages. In addition, individualized instruction is available to enhance the learning experience of both gifted learners and those who are experiencing difficulty. The district strives to identify these students and to provide them with the assistance they need to make sure they receive the best possible education.
In addition, middle school students are able to choose from among 34 extracurricular activities to round out their educational experience.
Students in grades nine and above attend one high school. At the high school level, students have the opportunity to take challenging honors courses and to choose from among 10 advanced placement courses to help prepare them for college or the competitive job market. Advanced science and math courses are included among these courses. Approximately 63% of the district’s students score 3 or above on advanced placement tests. The average ACT score for the district is 22.6. The district also has a 94% graduation rate, and approximately 91% of these students continue their education in college.
High school students enjoy a broad array of co-curricular opportunities; with as many as 45 activities to choose from, students are sure to find interesting things to do when the school day is finished.
The Prior Lake-Savage school district also provides numerous community service programs, which include family education courses for those with young children, and Kids’ Company child care for school-age children.
In addition, various volunteer opportunities are available for parents who wish to get involved. The district strongly encourages parental participation in their children’s education, and welcomes their involvement in the classroom, and as mentors or tutors. The district also provides parents with access to important information to help keep them abreast of their child’s progress.
