Richfield Minnesota is a first-tier suburb of the Twin Cities in Hennepin County and is bounded by the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport on the east side, Minneapolis on the north, Edina on the west, and Bloomington on the south side. Best Buy is the largest electronics retail business in the country, and is headquartered here. The 2000 census showed the population to be 34,439, with 11,6002 employed here. The predicted count for 2010 is 37,500 living within 7 square miles, with 17,100 employed here.

Richfield, aptly named after the fertile farmland it inhabited, began in the 1850′s as a small farming community and benefited from its proximity to Fort Snelling and its position on the edge of Minneapolis, which was already a thriving and growing city. Richfield extended all the way north to Lake Street, west to Edina, east to the Mississippi, and Bloomington to the south. In 1858 it held its first town meeting and by 1879 had built its town hall. In 1908 it became a village.

In the 1940′s, developers bought up farms and sold it to WW2 veterans. The boundaries changed dramatically during the first half of the 20th century. Minneapolis annexed much of the town, pushing Richfield back to 62nd St. Then the municipal airport claimed the chunk of land on the east end.

Most of the residential Richfield real estate is comprised of rambler or 1.5 story homes with three bedrooms on the main level, oaks floors, a basement that is half family room and half recreation room, with a big yard and mature trees. Richfield is loaded with parks and is conveniently located right next to the Lake Nokomis area of South Minneapolis. Major traffic arteries are 77, 62 Crosstown, and 35 W.
