Savage received the Star City designation from the state of Minnesota for excellence in planning and economic development. The city continues to strive for excellence by devising plans for the redevelopment of Hamilton district in downtown.

The Savage MN real estate market is the most populated and fastest growing community in Scott County. In addition, it is the second fastest growing city in the entire state. Much of this can be attributed to the natural beauty of areas that the city and environmental groups have worked to protect, including Eagle Creek, Credit River, and the Savage Fen. The new Bloomington Ferry Bridge and access to other major highways can also be attributed to this growth. The fine selection of Savage homes for sale is also a strong factor.

Savage City Hall
Savage MN City Hall. It sort of looks like a grain bin, wouldn’t you agree?

The riverfront, railroads, roads, and geographic location made this community a center of the grain distribution. As riverfront activity and grain elevator contstruction grew, commercial and residential real estate boomed, and the population rose as well. The industry had much to do with the influx of people, but many were also attracted to the natural beauty of the area. The city was named in 1904after Marion Savage, owner of a world famous race horse named Dan Patch, who appeared at many races. His owner built him an extravagant stable dubbed the “Taj Mahal” as well as a covered half-mile track. The town is still fixated on this horse, and celebrates Dan Patch Days every year.
