Stillwater Minnesota is a town of about 15,000 people occupying about 7.3 square miles of land. It is the seat of Washington County MN, and was established in 1854, the same year that St. Paul MN was officially incorporated. The town is considered the “birthplace of Minnesota” because territorial conventions to bring Minnesota into statehood were held here. Lumbering and sawmills were the basis of the local economy at that time. Today, the economy is diversified, but tourism is a major component of its commercial business sector.
