Four families from France, Bibeau, Vadnais, Garceau, and Morrisette came to this area and settled what is now called Vadnais Heights in the Mid 1800’s. More families settled this area, and families are still attracted to the Vadnais Heights real estate market.
It was added to White Bear Township in 1858, about the time that Minnesota was granted statehood. In 1957, its 2000 residents voted t for the incorporation of Village of Vadnais Heights. By state legislation, Vadnais Heights officially became a city in 1957. Vadnais Lake was named after one of the first settler families that took up residence in a lake homeon the southeast side of the lake. The Lake is still a beautiful scenic feature, and still remains undeveloped.
The town began as a rural agriculturally based community, but as the Minneapolis and St. Paul highways started linking to the area, it became a rapidly growing suburb and faced urban region needs like the installation of public water, sewer, and fire department. The City Center Plan formulated in the 1980s stoked the commerical growth along Cty Rd E and resultant infrastructure improvement. Soon, stores, dining establishments, and all sorts of commercial enterprises started popping up. A new city hall was constructed in 2001, replacing the old facility on County Rd F.
